Place to Be

Retiro dos Cavaleiros is translated from Portuguese as Retreat of the Knights. On the one hand, the name makes reference to the "Cavaleiros de Cristo", the "Knights of Christ", who were based at the castle in nearby Tomar as a successor organization to the medieval Knights Templar. On the other hand, it expresses the idea of a retreat where you can forget the busy and exhausting daily routine and come to yourself or simply enjoy the pool and the landscape.

Quinta das Olahas, which is the old name of the estate, is a remodeled former manor house. The upper gate below the prominent tower opens directly opposite the village church, revealing the buildings and the old Portuguese pine trees, which are a landmark visible from afar and provide shade to the inner courtyard.

The Place

The hotel comprises 7 residential units and is located in the middle of the central Portuguese village of Olalhas, 13 km from Tomar, where there are extensive shopping opportunities as well as the train station and the motorway entrance which connect you to every town in the country. Lisbon airport is 138 km away.

The premises total almost 9 hectares of walled garden, forest and cultivated areas, which we would like to invite you to explore.

The large pool (17 mx 6 m) invites you to take a swim or you can enjoy the surrounding beauty at numerous resting places. The barbecue area is ready to prepare a meal or have a snack.
